変更前：a disease that been shown to be associated with

変更後：a disease that has been linked to

「～との関連が示されている疾患」の意。日本語につられて“be shown to be”を使うと英文が冗長になりがちです。

変更前：harmful birth outcome

変更後：adverse birth outcome

「有害な出生転帰」の意。確かにharmfulは「有害」ですが、変更前の表現だと、outcomeが他の何かに対して有害なものであるかのように見えます。

変更前：In previous reports, (中略) has been shown.

変更後：Previous reports have shown that…

変更後の表現は無生物主語を利用したものです。変更前の文は、（中略）の部分がとても長く、肝心の動詞が最後まで出てこないかたちになっていました。

変更前：propagation from human to human

変更後：person-to-person transmission

「ヒトからヒトへの感染症の伝播」に関する記述です。propagationは熱の伝播や思想の伝播など、幅広く使用できる単語ですが、感染症の伝播という文脈ではtransmissionのほうが自然です。

変更前：Center for Disease Control and Prevention

変更後：Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

アメリカ疾病管理予防センター、通称CDCです。Centerが複数形となることに注意しましょう。

変更前：magnetic levitation type continuous flow centrifugal blood flow pump

変更後：magnetically levitated centrifugal continuous-flow circulatory pump

「磁気浮上型連続流型遠心血流ポンプ」の意。日本語でいうところの「〇〇型」を安易に“XX type”に置き換えてばかりいると、締まりのないフレーズになりがちです。

変更前：stroke with a disorder

変更後：disabling stroke

「障害を伴う脳卒中」の意。字面だけ見ると変更前のフレーズも問題ないように感じるかもしれませんが、意味的にはdisablingを用いたほうが正確です。

変更前：gene pathway

変更後：genetic pathway

「遺伝子経路」の意。
